We still have some time until spring comes around, and that means we need to be prepared for more winter weather. One thing that needs to be given proper care during winter is your HVAC system. With a functional HVAC system, your winters don’t have to be spent in bitter cold, however, there is some work that has to go into maintaining it. Here is what has to be done to keep your HVAC system maintained during winter.
Keep Your Insulation and Ductwork Maintained
If you see that your ductwork is leaking, make sure that you find the source of the leakage and get it sealed. Without proper sealing, your HVAC system won’t be able to get the warm air into the rooms for which it is intended. It would also cost you energy and make your heating expenses go up. Insulation goes a long way towards saving money and giving you a more comfortable building all winter long.
Get Your Air Filters Either Cleaned or Replaced
When your air filter gets piled up with dirt, it causes your furnace to work much harder. This is because it isn’t as easy for air to get through dirty filters. If you find your filters are a little dirty, you need to get them cleaned or replace them entirely. This way, not only does your furnace not have to work as hard, but you also get better overall air quality.
Get a Thermostat That’s Programmable
You might like the idea of setting your thermostat to a temperature that you find comfortable and then having them remain at that temperature for the whole winter season. The problem is that your HVAC system will have to put in more effort than necessary to keep your building comfortable, and it will make your energy costs go up. For this reason, we suggest setting your thermostat so that it’s at 68 degrees for the winter.
Cover Your AC Unit Outside
While air conditioning may not be the first thing on our minds during the colder months of winter, you still have to pay attention to it. AC systems need to be covered up so that they don’t get damaged by the winter weather. This way, they will be ready to use once spring begins.
